Disorder linked to high levels of testosterone in womb

I just learned that

Scientists know that autism is partly genetic, because it runs in families, although environmental factors must play a part because there have been occasions where one identical twin was autistic and the other was not. More than 100 genes have been associated with autism, but it is not yet clear which are most important.

Though the article’s claim that “genetic screening will one day be on the cards” was a bit too much for me.  Genetic screening may come, but interpretation and analysis is the difficult part.  The understanding of gene-gene and gene-environment interactions needs to be emphasized instead of using such a staunch biomedical model that is reductionist, single-factor oriented, and focused on problem instead of state/solution (i.e., illness over health).

Successful Traders: The Testosterone Effect

Another article about the effects of perinatal testosterone exposure.  Not particularly well written or insightful.  Just intrigued because it was the second article of the day that was concerned about prenatal exposure to testosterone.

Activists warn of Israel’s use of white phosphorous

The current Israel-Palestine conflict tears my heart whenever I hear about it.  The allegations in this article bring about a new pang.  (It may be important to note the article is from a Jordanian newspaper–though I don’t know if/what implications of this are.)
